Institutional mechanism of engagement that exists between India and Australia are:

- India-Australia Joint Ministerial Commission
- India-Australia CEO Forum
India-Australia CECA negotiations
Based on the recommendations of the Joint Study Group (JSG) in 2010 and subsequent approval of the Trade and Economic Relations Committee (TERC) headed by the then Prime Minister of India on 29.4.2011, India is negotiating with Australia Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) covering trade in goods, services, investment and related issues. Eight rounds of negotiations have been held so far.
India-Australia Joint Ministerial Commission
Last 14th India-Australia Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) Meeting was held in New Delhi on 29th January, 2013 co-chaired by Minister of Commerce & Industry, India and Australian Minister for Trade and Competitiveness. 15th India Australia JMC is expected to be held on 2nd November, 2015 in Australia.
India-Australia CEO Forum
Australia-India CEO Forum of business groups have been constituted to take forward the agenda of equitable and balanced exchange of goods and services along with investment in both the countries. So far, three meetings of CEO Forums have been held. Recently, India-Australia CEO Forum has been re-constituted with 14 members from Indian side and 12 members from Australian side. Now there is great potential of enhanced dialogue and cooperation at B2B level. Adani Group's Chairman, Mr Gautam Adani and Rio Tinto's CEO, Mr. Sam Walsh has been appointed as the co-chairs of the Australia-India CEO Forum. The 4th meeting of the India-Australia CEO forum was held on 23rd June, 2015.

Ten rounds of negotiations have been held so far.
