Kimberley Process

The Kimberley Process (KP) is a multilateral initiative established with a mandate from the United Nations Organization in 2003 to prevent the flow of conflict diamonds in the international trade of rough diamonds. The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) brings together participating governments, industry, and civil society to ensure that shipments of rough diamonds are accompanied by KP certificates confirming that they are conflict-free and traded in accordance with the requirements of the Scheme. The Kimberley Process Secretariat, is headquartered in Gaborone, Botswana for providing essential administrative support for KP Participants and Observers.

Chair of Kimberley Process

India is one of the founding member and the Chair of the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) for 2026, reaffirming its strong commitment to responsible and transparent diamond trade. During its Chairmanship, India aims for reinforcing trust in the global diamond supply chain, enhancing the credibility and integrity of the Kimberley Process, and ensuring strict adherence to its rules and procedures. Ministry of Commerce & Industry is the nodal ministry for Government of India for KPCS. Mr Suchindra Mishra, Special Secretary to the Government of India has been nominated as the Chair of KPCS by Govt of India.

KP Intersessional Meeting (11th to 14th May 2026)

As Chair of KP , India will organise the Kimberley Process Intersessional Meeting from 11th to 14th May 2026, at Jio World Convention Centre (JWCC), Mumbai, bringing together global stakeholders to review progress, strengthen cooperation, and advance discussions on responsible diamond trade.

Through collaborative engagement and constructive dialogue with all Participants and Observers, India aims to further strengthen the Kimberley Process as a stable, inclusive, and effective mechanism that safeguards the global trade of conflict-free diamonds while promoting transparency and responsible sourcing across the industry.”
